The primary purpose of this position is to assist in monitoring and maintaining physical inventory,

including returns and to assist the pharmacist in the preparation of medications for distribution to

Long‐Term Care (LTC) communities based on physician orders, achieved by following departmental policies and procedures within the scope of pharmacy standards.


Inventory Technician

  • Process and check in wholesale orders daily.
  • Restock shelves with inventory and returns daily throughout pharmacy areas.
  • Monitor and process returns of outdated, slow moving, and/or unused medications with wholesaler for credit.
  • Work with wholesaler and pharmacy usage reports to establish par levels.
  • Communicate product information, availability, and changes to pharmacy staff.
  • Review price change reports and take appropriate action.
  • Create bins and labels for new products.
  • Prepare and participate in quarterly physical inventory.
  • Assist operations techs in product location.
  • Make suggestions to pharmacists for alternate product to fill a prescription.
  • Communicate backorder problems to our customers and pharmacy staff.
  • Restock bins from overstock daily.
  • Work with Access department to get canisters for pharmacy formulary changes.
  • Prepare and manage returns process according to established policy.

Pharmacy Technician

  • Assists the pharmacist(s) on duty as their primary responsibility; performing these duties as priority.
  • Fills orders accurately and efficiently in a timely manner, under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Develops knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures and complies with them.
  • Assists in toting area for medication deliveries as necessary.


  • Process orders for scheduled daily cycle fill medication deliveries via automated
  • dispensing machines.
  • Maintain accurate medication information in machine software databases.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on medication strips and correct any machine or user
  • errors.
  • Organize medication strips in clients’ community wings accurately according to
  • specification of each home.
  • Verify each active resident has a medication strip and excludes all discontinued orders.
  • Monitor and maintain automated dispensing machine consumables.
  • Communicate and problem solve with client staff regarding resident medication
  • information.
  • Meet daily deadlines of scheduled medication deliveries.


  • Accurately package new and refill orders in the pharmacy software system with
  • emphasis on correct drug product and quantities.
  • Coordinate the exchange of emergency medication kits to communities by ensuring
  • boxes are accurate and complete; track and bill medications removed from boxes.
  • Monitor supply of pre‐packaged medication cards and initiate packing of new cards
  • when supply is low.
  • Repack unit dose medications utilizing automated strip dispensing machines and unit‐
  • dose packaging machines.
  • Communicate and problem solve with client staff regarding resident medication
  • information.
  • Meet the daily deadlines of scheduled medication deliveries.
  • Stock the pharmacy with inventory on a daily basis.


  • Prepare IV solutions, including calculation and compounding of IV’s according to
  • physician’s prescription with 100% accuracy.
  • Process IV orders through the pharmacy software system.
  • Set up new IV compounds in the pharmacy software system utilizing the IV price code
  • table.
  • Create and maintain resident IV folder in the paperless software system.
  • Follow aseptic technique while compounding in IV hood.
  • Track usage
  • of IV pumps sent to communities and arrange for retrieval.
  • Properly dispose of expired/returned IV solutions.
  • Meet daily deadlines of scheduled medication deliveries.
  • Assist and maintain accurate IV inventory.
  • Submit daily insurance claims and adjudicate any IV rejections.
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly cleaning responsibilities that are in compliance with
  • the standard 797 codes for IV Room maintenance.
  • Must complete IV Room and temperature logs with 100% accuracy.
  • Any and all duties as assigned.


  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Pharmacy Technician License as per state requirements.
  • Certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT); or must be obtained within two years of obtaining licensure, per state regulations.
  • Pharmacy inventory experience preferred; minimum one year.
  • Strong knowledge of brand/generic drugs and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling and commercial arithmetic with ability to write in a clear and legible manager.
  • Understanding of minor calculations regarding compounds and IV’s.
  • Excellent phone and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
  • General computer knowledge including Windows applications.
  • Ability to work evenings weekends and holidays as necessary.
