Symbria is seeking a dedicated and professional Nurse Consultant to join our 100% employee-owned team at our Pharmacy in Woodridge, IL! 🏥✨

 

Position Summary 

The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert nurse consulting services to ensure patient safety and the effective delivery of pharmacy services in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, and state regulations within the long-term care setting.

In this key role, the Nurse Consultant serves as a vital liaison between the pharmacy and long-term care communities, conducting audits, providing education, and offering guidance to support compliance with regulatory standards.

The position promotes best practices in medication management, enhances quality of care, and empowers nursing teams to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate patient care.

Symbria proudly serves a wide range of long-term care settings, including Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Memory Care, Developmental Disability communities, and other specialized residential settings—providing dependable, resident-centered pharmacy services tailored to each community’s unique needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular audits of medication carts and storage areas to identify expired or discontinued medications and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Notify nursing staff of required medication refills or appropriate destruction of medications, following established procedures.
  • Research and stay current on nursing practices, therapies, and standards relevant to pharmacy operations and long-term care communities.
  • Observe and evaluate the medication administration process within skilled nursing communities, providing constructive feedback to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Support new business start-up implementations and assist with integration of pharmacy consulting services.
  • Perform mock surveys to assess regulatory compliance and readiness for state or federal inspections.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver pharmacy-related nursing education, including topics such as wound care, medication administration, and competency assessments.
  • Serve as a resource for performance improvement initiatives within the pharmacy and partner communities.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with healthcare organizations and regulatory agencies to remain informed on pharmaceutical and clinical best practices.
  • Conduct ongoing nursing and pharmacy staff education, including intravenous therapy, wound care, and other specialized topics.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of nursing training programs tailored to community and regulatory needs.
  • Oversee annual onsite vaccination clinics (e.g., influenza and COVID-19) provided by Symbria.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support pharmacy and nursing excellence.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

  • Registered Nursing degree (RN) from an accredited college or university is preferred; LPN degree from an accredited college or university may be accepted.
  • Valid Illinois state registered nursing license.
  • Must be willing to obtain an Indiana state license within 1-2 months of employment 
  • Clinical experience in a hospital or Long-Term Care setting; minimum two years.
  • General computer knowledge including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Exercise professional phone, verbal and written communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFFERED

  • Extensive knowledge in intravenous (IV) therapies preferred.
  • To have experience as a DON in the long term care setting
