Position Summary

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) plays a critical leadership role by ensuring full regulatory, legal, and compliance oversight of the pharmacy while also working hands-on as a Staff Pharmacist.

As the pharmacist of record with state and federal agencies, you will ensure pharmacy operations meet all applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and company policies.

This role offers the perfect blend of leadership and clinical practice. While driving compliance initiatives, you will remain actively involved in patient care by supporting daily dispensing, clinical review, and pharmacist coverage to ensure safe, accurate, and timely medication delivery.

Responsibilities

Regulatory & Compliance Leadership

  • Serve as the designated Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) in accordance with state regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with DEA, Board of Pharmacy, and all applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain pharmacy licenses, permits, and controlled substance registrations.
  • Lead regulatory audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates to maintain compliance.
  • Partner with leadership, compliance, and quality teams to support operational excellence.
  • Refer to Symbria's Pharmacist in Charge Policy. 

Staff Pharmacist Responsibilities

  • Verify and interpret medication orders for accuracy and clinical appropriateness.
  • Collaborate with prescribers to clarify medication therapies.
  • Monitor laboratory values, medication therapies, and patient outcomes.
  • Perform final verification of medications before dispensing.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to pharmacy staff and healthcare partners.
  • Assist with daily workflow to ensure timely and accurate medication delivery.

Operational & Team Support

  • Support efficient, compliant pharmacy workflows.
  • Train, mentor, and develop pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
  • Participate in on-call pharmacist coverage as needed.
  • Identify process improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and compliance.

Qualifications

Required

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Active pharmacist licenses in Missouri and Kansas.
  • Previous Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) or regulatory leadership experience.
  • Three or more years of institutional pharmacy experience.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems and Microsoft Office.

Preferred

  • Long-term care pharmacy experience.
  • Experience with audits, inspections, or accreditation surveys.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and compliance programs.
